AMAWATERWAYS- *MS AMACELLO*
Nov. 12, LUCERNE – BASEL
Embark
your luxurious river cruise ship. Switzerland’s second largest city is
ideally located at the crossroads of Switzerland, France and Germany. Long an
important university, banking and trade center, Basel’s glorious past is still
evident in its medieval Town Hall and exquisite 18th- century patrician homes.
Tonight, gather on board for a
“Welcome Aboard” Wine Toast as you commence your wine-themed itinerary
through some of Europe’s most enchanting and historic wine regions . (B,D)
Nov. 13, BREISACH, GERMANY – COLMAR,
FRANCE
This morning, enjoy scenic cruising and an
onboard Wine Lecture on the way to Breisach, Germany. From Breisach, you will
travel to the area around medieval Colmar, France, situated along the Alsatian
Wine Route and the self-proclaimed “Capital of Alsatian Wine.” Colmar is known
for its half-timbered framed houses, German- influenced Old Quarter filled with
streets of unexpected twists and turns; its canals and the Launch River. You
will enjoy a pleasant walking tour of Colmar, followed by time to explore on
your own, perhaps stopping to discover the shops along Rue des Clefs. A
short transfer will then take you to the “Wunsch et Mann” winery in
Wettolsheim, where you will tour the cellars and learn about the history of Alsatian
wines. You will also see some of the machinery used in the production of wine.
Your visit concludes with a wine tasting in which you will sample a Pinot
Blanc, a Riesling and a Gewurztraminer. This evening, a delightful array of
Alsatian specialties will tempt you on the ship’s dinner menu, accompanied — of
course — by Alsatian wines. (B,L,D)
Nov. 14,
STRASBOURG, FRANCE
The principal city of the
Alsace region in northeastern France, Strasbourg, is situated on the Ill River,
where it flows into the Rhine on the border with Germany. This morning, take a
tour through this charming town lined with narrow cobblestone streets. See the
European Parliament and visit the “La Petite France” district, where you will
see the sandstone Gothic Cathedral with its famous Astronomical clock. Then, a
canal cruise will take you through this picturesque town, known for its black
and white timber-framed buildings, covered bridges and medieval watchtowers. In
the afternoon, you will visit the charming wine town of Obernai. Nestled
against the Vosges mountains in the heart of Alsace, Obernai is known for its
half-timbered houses, traditional Alsatian wine, food and festivals. After a
brief guided tour of Obernai, you will take a short drive to one of Alsace’s
most beautiful wine estates. There, in the typical Alsatian setting of Caveau
Klipfel, you will tour a unique wine-making exhibit featuring antique wine
presses, Vosges wooden wine casks and old viticulture stock. Our visit will
also include a wine tasting in a cozy wood-paneled tasting room. We will sample
a classic Riesling, noble Gewurztraminer and other famous wines of this region,
making a most memorable evening in Alsace. (B,L,D) Obernai Caveau Klipfel

beautiful views of the Neckar Valley and Heidelberg below. This evening, a
German-themed dinner will be served on board, accompanied by paired German
wines. (B,L,D)

rivers, where you will take a walking tour. This evening, enjoy a delectable
dinner paired with local wines. The ship moors in Koblenz overnight. (B,L,D) THE
